INTER-OCEAN IS SUED FOR
LIBEL
Capt. E. M. Putnam, 5509
Greenwood avenue, an officer in
the Confederate army, today
filed suit against the Inter-Ocean
for $25,000 damages for alleged
libel.
The suit is the result of the de
parture of Mrs. Julia Vogel, wife
of Peter W. Vogel, 2129 W. Con
gress street, from her home,
April 21, 1912. May 8, 1912, the
Inter-Ocean published an alleged
interview with Vogel, in which
.the latter said Putnam's Socialis
tic and free love teachings caused
his wife to leave home.
Putnam denies he was in any
way responsible for Mrs. Vogel
leaving her husband.
NOT PRETTY, BUT USEFUL p ,

A sheet of corrugated paper
such as is used for packing bottles
or glassware generally is a great
convenience on a desk. A square
piece of the paper is cut and flat
tened out to be used to hold pens.
The corrugations keep the pens
from rolling about and the paper
absorbs the ink, preventing it
from soiling desk or table.
The same thing is good to use
as a rest for brushes in painting.

When She Agreed With Him.
A well-known politician told
this recently:
."I have a very dear old house
keeper. She is aged, but she has
been like a mother to me. A little
while ago I noticed that my silver
shaving mug was slightly tar
nished, and I asked the old lady
to polish it for me. The next
morning I found it shining like
the sun. I completed my toilet
and then went into the kitchen to
thank her for her kindness.
" 'Mrs. G ,' I said, 'my mug
looks a lot better this morning.'
" 'It surely does, Mr. J ,'
she replied, glancing at me. 'Yoti
always look a lot better with a
clean shave.' "
