Mary Boyle O'Reilly and Representative Alfred G. Allen on the
steps of the house office building at Washington, just after a hear
ing before the house committee on rules on Representative .Allen's
resolution to investigate the canning industry. Miss O'Reilly for
two hours had held the committee spell-bound by her vivid narra
tive of what she had seen and experienced as a worker in the New
York canning factories. It was the same story that Miss O'Reilly
told two months ago in the columns, of The Day Book;
