FAIR BRIDGE WHISTERS
ARE IN FOR IT
Denver, Colo., Jan. 17. Den
ver women who like to play
bridge whist, with just enough
money involved "to make it in
teresting," will do so in the fu
ture at their peril.
Their homes may be raided by
the police, and they may be given
a ride in the patrol wagon to the
central station.
City Supervisor Skinner is plan
ning a "grand slam." He has in
troduced an ordinance which will
make bridge come under the head
of ordinary gambling, and the
bridge players will be given the
same treatment as those who in
dulge in any other game of
chance. An ordinance is also be
fore the council which prohibits
the sale of liquor to women in
cafes.
"Bridge playing is more de
moralizing to women than drink
ing," said Supervisor Skinner. "I
mean to stop it in the private
homes, as well as in clubs, hotels
and other public places. What's
the difference whether a woman
entertains her friends with a rou
lette wheel party or a bridge
party in her home? It's the same
in the last analysis."
Supervisor Skinner has lost his
popularity.

SPEAKS FAVORABLY OF
FRIEDMAN'S CURE
Washington, Jan. 17. Dr. F.
F. Friedman's famous serum cure
for tuberculosis was the subject
of a long report by Consul Gen
eral Thackera at Berlin sent to
Congress today by President
Taft. Thackera said 1,118 per
sons have been treated, and while
the cure has not yet been adopted
by the medical profession the re
sults warrant the attention of
Congress.
The report was submitted as
.the result of a resolution by Sen
ator Gore. Consul Thackera sa-ys
a majority of the cases treated
were children and most of them
were apparently successful. It
will -be a long time, however, he
stated, before the remedy be
comes available for use through
out the world.
Dr. Friedman says he is only
able to produce the serum in lim
ited quantities, it being obtained
from c o 1 d-b 1 o o d e d animals
through a tedious and lengthy
process.
