GOOD BAROMETER EASY TO MAKE
A remarkably accurate barometer can be made by a boy handy
with a pen knife, out of an old picture frame, three darning needles
and three strips of tinfoil.
The tinfoil is twisted into three spiral coils and fastened at the
top, but is free at the .bottom. At the extremity of each loose end
a small square card is fastened with "wet" written on one side and
"dry" on the other. The barometer is made and set in dry weather.
When there is rain in the air the humidity of the atmosphere
causes the foil to twist so that the side of the card reading "wet"
is brought to the front. If desired the three letters can be placed
on separate cards, as shown in the pictures.
