THE HIGH COST OF DYING
Belleville, 111.; Feb. 12: Un
dertaker of East St. Louis has
filed bill for $1,222 against estate
of James Connors, hod carrier,
who was found dead in his home
in East St. Louis. Connors had
a certificate of deposit showing
he had $1,526 in a bank.
Probatejudge Perrin is trying
to decide whether $1,122 is too
much to spend for the funeral of
a hod carrier.
Among the items in the under
taker's bill were $600 for the cof
fin, $100 for outside cedar box.
$108 for 19 carriages, $12 for the
hired pallbearers and $10 for can
dles. Judge Perrin is holding up the
claim until he hears testimony on
the correctness of it.
