JURY HOLDS BREAKING OF FACTORY LAWS
CAUSED DEATH OF ANNA IMROTH
City Building Department, State Factory Inspector,
Owners of Building and Employers All Equally to
Blame for Death of Girl in Riordan Fire.
Verdict of Coroner's Jury Shows Where Guilt Lay.
We, the fury, find that Annas Imroth, of 1442 N. Forty-third
avenue, cme to, her heath, Jan. 21, 1913, at the bottom of the front
stairway leading to the second floor of the building numbered 2010
and 2012 West'Kinzie street, from suffocation caused by fire and
smoke in said building on said date.
From the evidence offered the jury are of the opinion that had
the door behind which the deceased body was found lying dead,
opened outwardly instead of inwardly, the life of the deceased
might have been saved.
Further, the jury are of the opinion that the owners and. lessees
of the said buildings should have provided a free means of escape
from the building for the employes therein in case of fire or other
impending" like danger and that this case should call to the officials
responsible for the inspection of like constructed buildings their im
mediate attention with a view to avoiding a like occurrence in the
