For the second time within a
week, a Chicago mother has mur
dered her own baby rather than
face the consequences of a man's
And for the second time with
in a week, a man is to be allowed
to escape the consequences of. his
betrayal, while a woman must go
through life bearing a burden
worse than hell itself.
The mother in this case is Bea
trice Yalenga,- 18 years old, of
1020 South Sangamon street.
The baby was born without the
assistance of a doctor yesterday.
Three hours later, the mother
stole into an alley, and left her
baby, wrapped in an old blanket,
The baby died of cold and ex
posure. The police found the lit
tle dead body. An investigation
was made, "and the grief-stricken
mother found, sick and weeping
in her room.
And the man, the father of the
child? He found out that he was
to be a father some time ago, and
fled the city.
He is now in Youngstown, O.,
according to the police. But the
police will not give out his name,
and do not intend to try and brmg
One week ago today, Margaret
Dobson, 19 years old, facing the
scorn of the world and the wrath
of her relatives, hurled her new
born baby to its death from the
window of her room in a poor
rooming house at 19'4 Indiana
And in that case, too, the po
lice would not give out the name
of the man, and did not bring him
back to stand trial.
