Stahl started in the big league in
1903 with Boston. He was sold to
Washington and managed the Na
tionals in 1905. When the Boston
club was bought by Jimmy McAleer
and Robert McRoy last year Stahl
was made manager and won the
American League pennant and
world's championship in his first
year. His contract is supposed to call
for $10,000 a year. He also owned
stock in the Boston team, which he
will retain.
Bill Carrigan, the chief catcher of
the Red Sox, who succeeds Stahl as
manager, is 29 years old. He came to
Boston from Holy Cross College in
1906, and has never played with any
other team In the big leagues. He
was with Toronto for a short time
in 1907, but was recalled, and devel
oped into one of the strategists of
baseball.
Fielder Jones, former manager of
the Chicago White Sox, has admitted '
that he was offered $25,000 to pilot,
the Red Sox in place of Stahl. Jones
declined, saying he had been out of
baseball too long to successfully di-.
