One day I entered an American
headgear establishment, wishing to
replenish my wardrobe to the extent
of a new straw hat, you know. When
I requested to be shown such an ar
ticle, the clerk retorted:
"I gotcha, Stevanovitch. You mean
you're tired of sporting a winter bald
spot concealer, so you've decided to
worry like a cow and try a straw diet.
Say, I've got the toggiest layout of
breakfast food kellies you ever nail
ed your lamps on. Here's one that's
a dame-killer. Clinch it between your

We're not there on the grounds
to view the remains, but we'll bet that
those St. Louis strikers who appealed
to the governor for protection
against the police barked up the
wrong tree. Those strikers had no
property, to speak of, needing protection.
BOY SHOOTS STEPMOTHER
THEN KILLS' SELF
Mrs. Frank Strasburger, wife of
a wealthy inventor, formerly of Chi
cago, was shot and probably fatally
wounded today at Bass Lake, Ind.,
by her stepson, Martin Strasburger,
who then fired a bullet into his own
brain, dying instantly.
Young Strasburger, who was 21,
lived in Chicago. His mother, di
vorced from Strasburger, also lived
here. The son has been visiting his
father on the Indiana farm.
According to neighbors, young
Strausburger has bee ndissipating,
and this caused differences with hi3
stepmother. She is said to have fre
quently protested against his actions.
Early this morning the elder Stras
burger left the house to superintend "
some work on the farm. He was re
turning when he heard the report
of a revolver. He rushed toward the

his wife staggered out, blood flowing
from a wound in her head. She fell
unconscious in his arms.
Another shot rang out, and Stras
burger rushed into the dining room,
still carrying his wife. The body of
Martin was lying on the floor with a
revolver clutched in his hand.
Mrs. Strasburger was not entirely
unconscious, but could not explain
the circumstances that led to the
shooting. The course of the bullet
showed that she had been shot from ,
behind. Young Strasburger shot
himself in.the right temple.
Strasburger formely lived in Chi
cago. He invented a patent bottle
stopper, and not long ago received
more than $100,000 in royalties. He
then purchased the Indiana farm. He
was divorced from Marfin Stras
burger's mother some years ago.
