Police believe E. S. Duprey, who
shot and killed Henry L. Groninos,
aged photographer, whom he accused
of wronging his daughter, has fled
city. Description sent throughout

Chief Ogallala Fire, full-blooded
Sioux Indian, said to have been in
fight against Gen. Custer, has disap
peared. Police asked to search for
him by Henry Littlebear, 2145 N.
Clark street, with whom he has been
living.
Bryant Johnson, negro, arrested
after he leaped on Halsted st. car at
Meridian st. to escape policemen.
Charged with stealing clothes.
Chicago Woman's Club, largest in
city, won't be represented in Exam
iner suffrage edition. Mrs. George
Bass, president, who was to have
written for the edition, will write
nothing for it. Mrs. Bass has left
for New Hampshire.
Springfield, III. Gov. Dunne ap
pointed Dr. Anna Dwyer, Chicago, to
the state charities commission. No
salary.
Springfield, III. Gov. Dunne told
the new fish and game conservation
commission to get busy at once, to
divide the state into districts, each
supervised by a district warden with'
such deputies as are needed.
Springfield, III. Gov. Dunne con
ferred with a committee of the Chi
cago Sanitary District Board. Ex
pected Joliet will be given control of
power sites on the sanitary district
canal, now held by the Economy
Light & Power Co. Committee wants
present contract to expire in 1916.
St. Petersburg. Lieut. Polikar
poff, army aviator and mechanician,
instantly killed today while flying
high at army camp. Wing broke.
Machine turned. Both dead when
picked up.
Springfield, III. Seven young chil
dren clung to their mother today and
asked where their father was. The
mother was Mrs. H. G. Hunn, wife
of the dentist held on a charge of
manslaughter for death of Albert T.
Kammerer, young druggist. Dr.
Hunn says he has a clear conscience
and that Kammerer was drunk.
Peoria, III. Malcom J. Cook,
swimming instructor, started to
swim from Peoria to Pekin, ten
miles. Last year he made it in 4
hours and 45 minutes.
Charlestown, W. Va. Miners on
Cabin Creek and Coal River practic
ally all at work today. On Paint
Creek there is a scarcity of miners,
but with exception of Kingston and
Keeferton, all in Kanawha Valley are
now under union working agreement
and union miners in demand.
Washington. Former U. S. Sen
ator Foraker, Ohio, denied today that
he had ever helped N. A. M. as charg
ed by Mulhall; and denied most that
Mulhall charged about his activity fh

Washington. The House commit
tee began its Mulhall investigation
today Louis Seibold of the N. Y.
World told how the World got the
Mulhall letters. Said Mulhall was on
salary while preparing his story. Rep.
McDermott of Chicago was present
with council Mulhall will go on
stand tomorrow if Senate is through
with him.
Washington. Sen. Salisbury,
Delaware, defended tariff measure in
Senate today on the ground that it
would save the country from protec
tion and Socialism, which he describ
ed as "twin evil and ill-omened birds,
hatched in the nest of business and
political vultures, preying upon our
political life."
