RIPE TOMATO PRESERVES
Peel eight pounds of yellow toma
toes. Add seven pounds of sugar and
the juice of four lemons. Let stand
over night. Drain off syrup and boil
ten minutes, skimming all the scum
from top. Add tomatoes and boil
gently twenty minutes. Remove to
matoes with skimmer and spread on
dishes to . cool. Boil the syrup down
until one-half of the original amount.
Pack tomatoes in glass jars and turn
boiling syrup over and seal while hot.
German Cheese Sandwiches.
Method Butter thin slices of rye
bread, but do not cut off the crust,
spread on a very little prepared mus
tard, then thin slices of imported
Swiss cheese. If preferred the
cheese can be grated and packed on
