wonder is, how many runs the oppos
ing teanTwill roll up.
rluggins has some good mate'rial,
too. Lee Magee, Mowrey, Konetchy,'
Oakes, Whitted and Wingo have all
played good ball in the past, and
there is no reason to believe theyorill
not go again in the future. Slim Sal
lee is as good as ever, and some of
the young pitchers appear to be
promising. The conclusion, then, is
that .Huggins cannot get the best
from the players.
Fans in St. Louis treat the Cards
as a joke, and there is much dissatis
faction with Huggins. Frequently in
the last few weeks there have been
reports that Huggins was either to
"resign or be ousted. These reports,
of course, have been denied. Just
remember that the rumor that Jake
Stahl was to be fired as manager of
the Red Sox was denied by President
McAleer 24 hours before the can was
applied.
Because of the poor showing of
the team, the St Louis management
has been injured in the pocketbook.
This is an extremely vital spot with
baseball magnates, who don't care
for money any more than they do
for their right eyes. The team is a
drag on the finances of the entire
league. Visiting teams in the past
few weeks have not made expenses
in several instances. The other ma'gy
nates are not going to stand for this.
It hits their bank account too hard.
Either of the St. Louis teams could
have made good money this year with
a decent showing. With the Amer
icans wallowing in the ruck, Mrs.
Britton could have cleaned up with
a team at the head of the second divi
sion. The same applies with reverse
English.
In some quarters it is said that St.
Louis is in danger of losing its fran
chise in the National League". In such
a case, a team would be placed in
Baltimore, Buffalo or Louisville. Lit
tle credence is placed in this report.
But the Cards must make a better
showing. A realignment" in the team
win he. necessary.- -And.the-manager

WhV is going toplay, Jeft -field for
the Cubs next year? Th;ejanswer is
