BANK MESSENGER ROBBED OF
$15,000 BY AUTO BANDITS
The valise containing nearly $15,
000 in money and checks, which was
stolen from the Garfield Park State
Bank .-messenger this morning, was
found in the rear of a new building
at 1239 Independence boulevard, this
The discovery was made ,by the
Fillmore street station police. The
valise was empty. Previqusly checks,
part of the loot, had been found in
that vicinity. The valise was iden
tified by officials of the bank.
The robbery was the most sensa
tional in years. Warrington McBvoy,
18, the bank messenger, emerged
from the bank, Madison street and
40th avenue, at 8:30 for his custom
ary trip to the Continental & Com
mercial'Bank. He stood on the cor
ner waiting for an east-bound car.
Suddenly a high-powered automo
bile, containing four men, drove up.
Two, of the men jumped out. One
man struck McEvoy. The other grab
bed the valise. They Jeaped back into
the car. With a sudden roar, the car

far as 12th street, where it was driven
into the alley while the men examined
the results of their haul.
The valise contained $4,800 in cash
and $10,000 in checks.
