OLD BUT PASSING?
Chinese writers disagree as to the
origin of the foolish and cruel prac
tice of foot-binding, but it is thought
to be certain that it originated in an
imperial harem during the T'ang
dynasty, about 1,400 years after the
time of Confucious.
It is.said by some to have been re
sorted to to disguise natural deform
ity, while others claim that the orig
inal intention of foot-binding was to
keep the women from gadding about
and neglecting their household
Thanks to the efforts of foreign
missionaries the practice is gradual
ly 'dying out
The habit-forming time is the child
time of life. Start your child with
the right habits by seeing that he is
betimes to school each morning. The
