A herd of wild steers in Gotham's
Thank-'goodness that hobble skirts
are slit this year! And that low heels
are good running shoes!
Eleven steers broke away from a
docked boat in the Hudson river in
the early forenoon. They couldn't
have stampeded more wildly in Texas.
Their course was across the island.
When they came to Fifth avenue, up
40th street, just where promenaders
are thickest, they "shied and whirled
into the world's most prominent thor
oughfare. Mounted policemen dashed at
them from all sides. The highest-,
priced stores in the world were com
mon refuges for everybody. The po
lice began shooting. The steers got
