Mrs. Scott is a woman of consider
ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE
Los Angeles, Nov. 24. As the re
sult of the long questioning she has
undergone since she told the police
and newspaper men Saturday that
she had shot and killed Marshall
Field, Jr., in Chicago several years
ago, Mrs. Vera Scott, formerly Mrs.
Vera Prosser, is on the verge of col'
lapse today. Sedatives are being used
freely by the police surgeons.
The detectives who have question
ed her are admittedly puzzled. Al
though she has constantly contra
dicted herself regarding details of her
story, she has stuck to the essential
assertion that she slew Field during
a quarrel in a certain resort in Chi
cago. She is held under a charge of va
grancy. The details of her story have
been telegraphed to the Chicago po
lice, who have made no reply as yet.
