of Vera Prosser's life,'
The exact cause ofTthe death of Marshall Field, Jr., wfil probably remain
a mystery.
Those who know about it in Chicago won't talk, and late Monday
afternoon Mrs. Vera Prosser, under, arrest at Los Angeles, changed her
mind and not only denied the killing, but denied that she ever said she killed
him.
On Saturday night both of the big press associations carried a story
from Los Angeles telling of a confession made by Vera: Prosser, alias Vera
Leroy, to the effect that-he nad shot Marshall Field, Jr., in a Chicago re
sort: known as the Everleigh Club. '
On Monday morning she was reported as being on the verge of collapse.
After she had rested and recovered" from her collapse she changed her
mind and denied the whole thing.
"What will you dcif you are extradited: to Chicago?" the Los Angeles
police asked her.
"They don't dare extradite me," she replied. "If I went there I would
tell stories about other prominent Chicagoans that would make their hair
bristle."
