FEW ATTEND SULZER MEETING
Less than 1,000 in Orchestra Hall
last night heard former Governor
Sulzer of New York tell of his battle
with Tammany, which resulted in his
impeachment and also the subse
quent whipping the tiger received at
the hands of the voters of New York.
Sulzer pictured himself as a "victim
of the Murjrhy machine. He admitted
he had made mistakes before being
elected governor, but said he had
tried to do differently after taking
office.
He said Murphy tried to own him
and had offered him $1,000 a month
over his regular salary from the
state. -
The first break with Tammany
came, according to Sulzer, when he
refused to appoint Jim Gaffney a
member of the state highway com
mission. -
