The picture above shows the engine and the fireman who is the custodian of it. The engine was presented to the town by Sir George Farquahar in 1788. It has been continually in use since then, standing most of the time on the porch of the parish church. This ancient fire engine is today the town's only prptection. It is capable of throwing a jet of wpter 60 feet high, which is more than is re quired to top the highest house in Bothbury.
