I put her on a pedestal.

'fh. Miss Johnson. There is a
man coming down the street that I
am .going to let you interview, leu
him to wait and then read his record.
After that, go out and talk to him
and I will leave the door ajar and
criticize you when you are through.
"I did as instructed. On the rec
ord I found that the man had been
blind a couple of years before, had
recovered his sight, then broken his
leg, and now had been out of em
ployment for some time, but the
thing that attracted me most was the
statement that his wife would soon
have a baby.
"With this uppermost, I went out
to see him. 'I can talk to you, now,'
I said, 'but' first, let me congratulate
you on the little stranger that is
coming to your home.'
"Imagine my consternation when,
after the man had departed, the dis
trict superintendent almost shouted
at me:
" 'Mis& Johnson! The very idea!
I had all I could do to keep from in
terrupting you. The idea of con
gratulating that low-down little
brute on a new baby that was com
ing. You should have told him, in
stead, that he had no right bringing
children into the world, that it was
an outrage for a man like him to
have a family at all.' "
Very amusing these little insights
