SOME PURP
A doctor was attending a danger
ous case where a Scotch hutler was
engaged. On calling in the forenoon
he said to Sandy: "I hope your mas
ter's temperature is much lower to
day than it was last night." "I'm no
sae vera sure aboot that,", replied the
butler, "for he deed this mornin'."
DID FORD MAKE A MISTAKE?
By N. D. Cochran.
Nothing any milionaire has done in
many a day has caused so much com
ment as Henry Ford's plan of dividing
profits with his employes. Some think
it will do more good than harm, and
that the sudden jump from a mini
mum of $.34 a day to $5 will spoil
the workman who gets that raise.
Others hail it is a great boon for
the working class.
It may turn the heads of a few men
to suddenly find that instead of work
ing long' hours for a bare existence,
they will have eight hours for work,
eight hours for sleep and eight hours
for play.
It may daze some of them to find
out that the boys and girls can finish
school instead of going to work in,of
flces or factory to help keep the
family.
It may seem strange to have an
extra dress for mother, a new suit
for dad, some pictures on the wall, a
piano in the parlor to give the house
a tune, or perhaps a graphophone.
It may temporarily upset the fam
ily to quit existing and begin to live.
But those who are worrying about a
little prosperity spoiling a few work
ingmen and their wives might as well
get their minds busy on something
else.
The big. thing Henry Ford has done
is to make both capitalists and work
ers think. For the world wouldn't
profit much by a bit of justice to the
workers in one factory in one coun
try. And Ford may be deep enough
to understand that he has started
something that will not only help the
few thousands who work for him,
but the many millions who. work for
other employers all over the" world.
I attach more importance to the
work of Ford as an agitator than as
a philanthropist. He who makes the
world THINK makes the world pro
gress. Ford is making us think. Bully
ford Ford.
