"i the' blockaded suitor had got
abroad. He returned to the house
furious.
"Where is Bertha?" he demanded,
and Mrs. Newcombe paled, but'
doughty Daisy spoke up valiantly.
"Bertha left the nouse an hour
ago," she said evenly. "It was to
meet Roscoe'Dalton, and by this time
they are on the way to Brocton in a
sleigh to get married." .
"Then you put up this plot!" began
Mr. Newcombe.-
"Gently, husband," "spoke Mrs.
Newcombe. "You haye driven one
daughter to elope. Be careful of the
one that's left to us."
Daisy went over to the snow fort
where her royal cohorts .were.
"You can kiss me, you brave, dar
ling fellows!" she said royally.
There was a grand dive for the vel
vety cheeks presented.
"And you can kiss me twice," she
invited Ronald Grey.

LIKEFOLKS
Every form of marriage contract
known to man, from free love to the
'soul-mate theory, can be found in the
animal world, according to reports
made by scientists after careful
study.
In many cases male animals even
have their bachelor clubs and so
cieties, especially among the deer and
antelopes. These societies are usual
ly made up of three or four young
bucks who range and feed together,
quite happily, in perfect friendship..
They never quarrel until some fe
male arrives on the scene and when
the doe joins the herd trouble begins.
Members of the society start -to
light like cats and dogs while the doe
looks on, enjoying the sport. The
deer that drives the others away
walks off in triumph with her.

colors.
This is a very simple and stylish
every-day dress that can be made
without much expense and is prac-'
tically unperishable.

FRIENDSHIP
"But, Helen, how did you, make ,
the acquaintance or your second nus
band?" "It was quite romantic. I
was out walking with my first, when
my second came along'in a motor and
ran him down. That was the begin
, ning of our friendship."
