Those in charge at the cafe referred
the union men to the Edelweiss
Brewery, and from the brewery they
were sent to the Brewers' Associa
tion, where they weretnet with an
absolute turndown. They were told
that the brewers didn't care to talk
business with them.
Furthermore, the unions claim that
the restaurants will subscribe a fund
of $400 a day to support any res
taurant that might be attacked by the
But the money of the restaurant
trust hasn't seemed to frighten the
men and women of the unions and
they are determined to go ahead with

Their plan is to take one restaurant
at a time. Henrici's has been select
ed as the first. And it is the wait
resses who have jumped to the front

At Henrici's the girls must work 7
hours a day for $7 a week, and the
work is very hard.
The men employes have an equally
hard time. In some of the places,
and Henrici's is one of them, the men
are often forced to work 16 hours a
day. They get no overtime for that.
. The girls are demanding a 6-day
week and a minimum of $8 a week.
The men want either 6 days of 12
hours a day or 7 days of 10 hours a

mum of $14.50 and the waiters $10.
They are not asking for an increase.
The City Hall may be drawn into
the present trouble, owing to the
charges made by union officials who
assert that a number of restaurants
in the Restaurant Keepers' Ass'n
have bakeshops in the basemen. Thjs

Among the restaurants and cafes
said to have basement bakeshops are

Boston Oyster House, North Ameri
can, Planters', Hotel Sherman and'
the Kaiserhof .
The affiliated unions are going to
stand shoulder to shoulder with the
restaurant workers' unions in this
struggle. Bakers, stationary en
gineers and bakery wagon drivers will
all be with the fight.
The unions plan to have no vio
lence in their attack on Henrici's, but
every man and woman. who passes
the place will be asked not to eat
