San Francisco. Cal.. Feb. 6. San
Francisco has a 14-year-old girl who
aspires to startle tne swimming
world. She is Dorothy Becker,
school girl and all around athlete.
She is considered one of the most
remarkable girl swimmers who ever
splashed around in a bathing suit
Her conquests are varied and many.
She lost only one important race
the 50-yard event, to Dolly Minges of
Los Angeles last summer. But the
question of a bad start was brought
up at the time.
Miss Becker will meet Ruth Pay
son Stacker of Honolulu in a spe
cial 50-yard race and will also enter
the other races up to 100 yards dur
ing a water carnival there Feb. 20
and 21. The Honolulu girl is the
American record holder for 50 yards,
with 31 seconds.
Besides being a swimmer, Miss
Becker is an expert fancy diver, and
will enter the diving contests for girls
in the meet. She is widely known
in local swimming circles and has
often given exhibitions of her
