HONEYMOONERS WALK ACROSS CONTINENT
FOR THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS v
Gilbert Moore and His 17-Year-Old Bride.
San Francjsco, Feb. 10. With an
offer of $1 for every mile covfered,
in addition to the delights of a unique
honeymoon, Gilbert Moore, an iron
worker of this city, and his 17-year-old
bride are hiking across thecon
tinent from the Golden Gate to
Broadway. They left here recently,
carrying only knapsacks.
If they complete the journey in six
months, making their expenses along
the way, they will receive $3,000, the
offer of an uncle, Wm. Moore and
New York .restauranteur, who chal
lenged the young couple to visit him
under these conditions.
She is the niece of Henry Schles
inger, wholesale wine merchant"- and
one of San Francisco's prettiest
young matrons. Her most protracted
hike heretofore has been 42 miles.
Moore is a veteran roadster, having
walked from Reno to this city re
cently. They will sell postcards of them
selves and the 1915 exposition along
the way, following a southerly route.
"Just watch our trail," they said as
they started, "that $3,000 is easy
"Your honor," said counsel, "this
man's insanity takes the form of a
belief that every one wants to rob
him. He won't allow me, his coun
sel, to approach him."
