New York. Edna Freund is the
first "gun girl." As she tangoed at
a mask ball the other night a re
volver slipped out of her stocking; it
belonged to her best fellow. Edna
was taken to jail. "I won't tell on
him," she told the police. "It only
means six months in 'stew' for me,
but it would mean seven years for
him, so I won't tell."

NOW, DON'T EVERYBODY HANG
AROUND VAN BUREN AND STATE
How would you like to be walking '
along one of the downtown streets
at one of the busiest hours of the
day. and have an extremely good
looking girl come up and throw her
arms around you and refuse to let
go?
That was the experience of H. M.
Enright, manager of the W. P. Soule ,
Co., woolen manufacturers, yester
day. Enright was walking near -Van
Buren street, on State street, yester
day when a young woman ' rushed,
put the stranglehold on him and de
cided to stick in that position.
Enright objected. There are places
where a demonstration of affection is
rather embarrassing and this was
one of Ihem.
So Enright sought to unloosen her
grip. Whereupon the lady biffed En
right in the nose.
She was just about to put over the
knockout when Officer Thomas Fitz
gerald came to the rescue of Enright.
It took four policemen to induce
the young lady to let go of Enright
and go to the station.

Fears of the families of W. H.
