Now Baby Vallie Has a Last Name,

Chester, III., March 20. I was
present at the Chester penitentiary
when the state of Hlinois;,'uncondi
tionally released the services of Con
vict A915 to his baby boy Vallie.
A simple yet tensely dramatic wed
ding in the warden's parlor made
Charles Kimzey and Cora Calvert
man and wife. And then a richly
engraved document, bearing a golden
seal, was put in Kimzey's hand. It
was the official acknowledgment qf
the great state qf Illinois that Baby
Vallie 'has the best claim upon
.Charles Kimzey's love and services.
It was a little after noon that Kim
zey walked into the parlor where the
pretty little bride-t07be had been
waiting all morning long. Only a mo
ment before had he heard of the par
don. Shyly he went up to the pale girl
mother, who rose with a happy but
embarrassed smile. "Cora!" lie cried,
and in a moment the couple were
closed in each' other's arms. .
Then, "And our boy?" he asked.
Cora's eyes grew grave. She told
how Baby Vallie, all the time that
people throughout the land have been
voting for him and against the state,
