The stool pigeon, one of the'inost
evil relics of the old police days,. when
the third degree and other outrages
were practiced freely by the police,
has been revived by Maje Funkhouser
and his. "morals squad."
The stool pigeon in most case's is
a criminal of the "sneak? variety,
who getsthe confidence of a gang of
crooks and runs to the -police with
what information-he gathers
Attorneys have cha'rged that po
lice1 have taken convipfe from" the
penitentiary on their promise that
th$y "will play stool pigeon.
A man just from the penitentiary
is treated well by the gang. He is1
also allowed to ejnter the inner sanc
turns of the"particular band that har
bors him. And then he lobs the men
that befriended him- '
But the morals squad has a dif
