Laredo, Tex. Neuva. Laredo is a
smouldering mass of ruins as result
of the Mexican federal soldiers ap
plying torch to the town when they
evacuated it yesterday. Simultan
eously the torch was applied to the
National Railway shops, the station,
the custom house, the United States
consulate, the municipal building,
the Concordia Theater, the military
barracks and numerous other struc
tures, all of which were reduced to
ashes in short order.
Later several Mexicans on the
Mexican side fired on the American
guards and a lively fight ensued for
a few minutes, several Mexicans be
ing killed. No Americans were killed
or injured. Much excitement pre
vailed here during the afternoon.
Vera Cruz, Mexico. Only courtesy
