HOYNE MAKES NEW MOVE IN
WAR ON TAXDODGERS
State's 'Attorney Maclay Hoyne
yesterday brought his war .against
the taxdodgers of Cook county to
Roy O. West of the Board of Re
view. To West he sent the following let
ter: "Under the statutes of this state
relating to revenue, and under the
statutes relating to the attorney gen
eral and state's attorney, I, as well as
your honorable body, am charged
with the duty of seeing that the laws
first mentioned are carried out and
that the penalties prescribed therein
are enforced for a failure to comply
with these laws.
"I would request that you, in con
junction with the board of assessors,
arrange for a joint meeting between
both your bodies and myself so that
we can take up without delay the
matter of taxing property which has
unlawfully escaped taxation, the tax-
r ing of capital stock of domestic cor
porations and of shares of stock in
foreign corporations and of mort
gages, notes and other credits which
are the proper subject of taxation. I
would particularly request that you
arrange to furnish this office, with as
little delay as possible, a list of per-
ifci.
