BOY TELLS OF THREE MURDERS
HE HAS CONFESSED
An 18-year-old boy, who has spent
all his life in the country, sat in a
room at the detective bureau and told
with the simplicity of& chHd how he
had killed two women and a man in
Gallipolis, O., last Wednesday. x
Harley eBard is the boy's name.
He murdered Mrs. Nancy Massey
and Mary, for whom he worked, ac
cording to his confession.
Beard said he was taken out of an
orphanage by the Masseys. His sttory
of the murder is as follows:
"Bob Massey went down town
"Wednesday morning. I went back to
bed. I just got in bed when Mary
came in and sat on the edge. I told
her to leave and we had a fight.
"When Bob came home she said I
tried to attack her. Bob was mad
and threatened me with an axe. Then
I told him about her coming in my
room. That made him worse and he
started at me. I had a heavy stick,
with an iron ring at one end, in my
hand. I busted his head in.
"Mary came out. When she saw
Bob lying on the Door she jumped at
me. I busted her. Then the old lady
came out and I busted ehr. i
"I thought I saw the old Iddy move
a bit, so I went and got Bob's razor
and cut her head off. Then I cut
Mary's head off. I didn't cut Bob's
head off. I liked Bob.
"Then I went down, got a train and
came to my sister's house. That's
The boy was arrested at the home
of his sister, Mrs. D. E. Day, 1331 W.
Physicians say he is a mental defective.
