GIRL ATHLETES TO CHALLENGE BOY RIVALS

Alameda, Cal. In the sands of
Surf Beach between dips in the surf
the young water nymphs here are de
veloping into all around athletes and
threaten the laurels of the yoiuig men
of these parts Pole vaulting, high
jumping, baseball, football, swinging
on rings and other stunts are prac
ticed daily by a bevy of girls to whom
a half mile swim is no trouble what
i- Just now a number of the girls are
devoting considerable time to high
jumping, and although they are new
at the game, several are showing pro
ficiency Janet Pierce is one of the
best jumpers on the beach.

lot, and hope before long to be a good
