Dolan's Municipal Court awarded
Artie Hoiman, former Cub star, ms
salary claim against the Chicago
Cubs for $2,900.47.
Hofman based his plea on "peon
age." The salary claim harks back
to the time when Artie was. sold to
the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"I had a contract with the Chjcago
club of the National League for the
season of April 1 to Oct. 15, 1912,
calling for $5,000," Hoiman testified.
"In June I was struck on the head by
a ball and injured. The injury inter
fered with my playing and a week
later June 30 I received a letter
from Mr. Murphy, president of the
club, informing me that I had been
disposed of to Pittsburgh.
"After only a few weeks with Pitts1'
burgh I was let out and all I obtained
from Pittsburgh was $694.47. When
I demanded payment of the remain
der of the amount called for in my
contract with the Chicago club Mr.
Murphy told me I would have to look
m to Pittsburgh for my salary.
"I had received payments from the
Chicago club early in the year of
1912, which, with the payment by
Pittsburgh, left a balance of
$2,900.47."

WHY NOT COMFORT?
By Jim Manee.
We folks who seek the shade of trees,
And do about as we dern please,
And have a chance to get some
breeze,
Have got no kick that's true.
When we can take our hat and coat.
And cast 'em off and bare our throat,
There's reason much .for us to gloat,
Cause we don't have to do
The things our friend the mailman
does
He wears his coat and just because
"Them's orders," though he sweats,
he does.
Now how would that strike you?
P. S. Take 'em off, Mr. Mailman,
we know you.
