I was passing his house when I saw a wo man coming along the road. It was her! I knew her in a minute. So did Old Michael. I was curious then, I tell you. "She came along and stood there, staring at him, and he stared back, but there wasn't anything but hate in his look. Then, all at once I don't know how it happened, but I heard a sort of sob I don't know which one sobbed and they were holding each other tight and crying and kissing. And Old Michael didn't look old any more, nor doesn't now. And they live here now. I work for 'em. Rich they are, and there's a baby come last April. "So what I say is, next time a gos sip comes along, Tm a-going to treat him kindly, because they do bring luck with 'em, there's no doubt about that." "Well!" gasped Elizabeth again. "Dear," I said, as we started home ward, "I think we shall have to build that house of ours after all." "But it shall not take us eighteen years to build it," I answered her. Chapman.) o o ' PEPPERS WITH MACARONI Cut the tops from green peppers, remove seeds and core, and let stand 10 minutes in boiling water. Chop cooked macaroni into small pieces. Mix with cream sauce in proportion of 1 cup of sauce to 2 cups of maca roni. Drain pepper, wipe dry, mix 1 cup of grated cheese with the maca roni, and fill the peppers. Put a few fine crumbs on top, dot with butter. Bake in granite pan nearly as deep as peppers are high. Baste 2 or 3 times. Do not cook until peppers lose their shape. Serve with tomato sauce. - 7wobrw pnol a asai-tiqlB m m "TOMMY TINKER" SUIT BRINGS COMFORT TO TINY TOTS The "Tommy Tinker" suit for tiny boys is of white linen with lark blue cords each side of the bias bands. The distinctive cut of this suit is in the wide trousers, which are sup posed to be nearly twice as large as the small legs they encircle. HOUSEHOLD HELPS Beets can be baked for table just as potatoes are, and they are de licious. Plunge tomatoes in very hot water, then into cold. The skin will come off easily, and they will remain firm. Try rubbing the silver every day with a dry flannel rag; it will not have to be cleaned with silver polish nearly so often.
