Cody just lis fast as ever we can,
and in a few years we'll have a half
ton fellow on the scales to smash all
James Adolph Cody (his real
name) of Habersham county, is five
He only weighs 214 pounds at pres
ent, 'tis true.
But give us TIME, we asked. He's
He's gained 84 pounds in the last
two years. At that rate, do you care
to figure out how large a part of a
ton he'll balance when he comes of
age? "Big Joe" himself avers that
at that time his portly person will
throw all rival heavyweights into the
deepest of dark shades.
James Adolph Cody was born in
February, 1909, on "his father's farm,
a few miles north of Mount Airy.
On his entrance into this world
whose champion fat man he is doubt
less destined to become, "Big Joe"
brought no startling amount of avoir
dupois. He weighed 12y2 pounds
which is normal, for Georgia- babies,
But he started right in to grow up,
down, back-and-forth, and sideways.
He gained 32 pounds the first year, 45
the next, 40 the third, and at four
years of age, he already weighed 20
pounds MORE than his father!
Now, at the age of five, "Big Jpe"
is 4 feet 2 inches in height and weighs
214 pounds. He is healthy and strong,
and always happy. He's an expert
and enthusiastic horseman, but it
takes a special variety of cart-horse
to bear his five-year-old portliness.
He talks fluently, and is unusually in
telligent for his age.
In a few months "Big Joe" is going
to enter professional life. He will fol
low the fairs, this fall, under bis fath
er's management They may take
Joey's cousin along with them. Joey's
cousin is unusually well supplied with
fingers. He has six on .the right hand
and seven on the left Between them,
.the youngsters consider they would I
make a complete and paying ten cent
Joey's father and mother are not
abnormally heavy, but his brother,
aged 13 weighs 171 pounds.
Students of heredity, and any eu
genist anxious to produce a race of
blissful beings always in happy humor
and of substantial size, are invited to
study Joey's family history.
