HE'S.GOT A COMPLAINT
Editor Day Book: I have noticed
you usually champion a just cause
and the cause I have in mind is the
much-abused police of Chicago.
His honor the mayor is now trying
to take a good one out of the poor
cops. He has declared all dog catch
ers, matrons and clerks in as police,
which would entitle the above to the
police pension fund.
The police have contributed one
per cent of their pay for the upkeep
of this fund. The newly-made Carter
Harrison police never have and donot
intend to contribute. Yet the majority
are ready to retire as soon as they
are declared under the fund.
This kind of cheap graft will only
break the fund up and all the C. if.
police and the really ones will go-, in
what Armour leaves of the pig the
It will be interesting to see what
the matrons, clerks, etc., will do with
the thousands they have and are will
ing to spend to gain their- end. A

THE HOUSEWIVES MAY BOYCOTT
New York "If the price of meat
rises much higher the American
housewife will call an American meat
boycott; she'll use more fish and eggs
and more Argentine beef until the
price comes down."
This is the threat Mrs. Julian
Heath, president of the National
Housewives' League, an organization
that has branches in almost every city
in the country, tosses back to the
"meat barons" who are putting beef
up to topnotch prices.
It was Mrs. Heath who engineered
the "egg boycott" last spring and di
vorced the "little red hen" from the
storage houses, -and pulled-down the
price of' eggs.- . -. .
