the Los Angeles public -schools re
cently. He was captured while very
young and has been the little girl's

Katherine B. Davis, Commissioner
of Corrections in New -York, has ap
pointed Miss Mary Harris a deputy at
BlackwelTs Island to have supervi
sion over women prisoners in the
island workhouse. t' Dr.' Anna Hubert
was recently added' tothe workhouse
playmate since he was a tiny pup.
The animal is quite docile now and is
easily managed by Miss Gates, but re
sents handling by others,
o
medical staff, so now the care of the
women prisoners is entirely in the
hands of women.
Religion is like an automobile in
one respect it isn't so hard-to get as
to Keep.
