front! Little Brona Porubovich, 14-year-old
Servian girl -of the Servian
colony here, will be one of the first of
the foreign volunteers to leave Amer
ica for the bloody battlefields of Eu
rope. Fired by patriotic fervor this mite
of a girl stepped upon a platform in
a hall where hundreds of her fellow
countrymen were gathered and in a
little speech told the assemblage that
she was going to war with the men
as a nurse. The cheers of the. mul
titude rocked the building and there
was a wild rush for the enlistment
tables at once and scores of Servian"
yolunteers signed the muster roll,
willing to leave"at a moment's notice.
MissPjarubovich got her training
nurse at the-clinic ofthe University
of Calif orniaedical College and also
.by visiting tfiehospftals of the city
'and studyintheir methods.
The diminutive nurse will leave for
the seat, of war .with the first Servian
troops-'sent from- here.
