THE OAK PARK "L" DON'T HAVE
TO ELEVATE TRACKS
Judge Kohlsaat today comforted
Sam Insull, so-called "Pierp Morgan
of the West," by tejling him it would
be all right for him to. disregard the
Illinois Public tilities Commission
which ordered Sam Insull to elevate
the dangerous Oak Park, "L" tracks
in Austin and Oak Park.
Insull is the receiver of the Oak
Park "L" road. Recently the utili
ties commission became aroused
against the "L" road after the citi
zens of Oak Park cried out in protest
'against the dangerous grade cross
ings that have cost so many lives and
ordered Insull to get busy and ele
vate the tracks to the western ter
minus of the road.
Insull immediately raised an awful
howl. And Insull as one of the finan
cial bears of Chicago can howl lus
tily when he wants anything. He
asked Kohlsaat to end this "anarchy"
on the part of the people of Oak Park
and the utilities commission.
So Kohlsaat complied this morn

DOWN THEY STAY
By Jim Manee.
I ought to say "I told you so,"
But that shows kindness lacks.
Besides it isn't kind to kid
About those Oak Park tracks.
Sam Insull is a wise old owl,
'Cause all he does is teases.
And while about the tracks folks howl
He does just as he pleases.
P. S. The people are up in the air
now not the tracks.
JUDGE REFUSES TO GIVE GIRL
A WARRANT FOR ASSAULT
Judge Gemmill today refused to is
sue a warrant to a union waitress
after she had sworn to an affidavit
that a non-union Knab waitress had
made an assault on her.
Emma Granbach, picket, was the
girl, who appeared before Gemmill.
She swore that Isabelle Newman, a
Knab girl, struck' her Saturday as
the Newman girl was emerging from
one of Knab's strike-bound restau
rants. The judge appeared non-interested.
Then he blurted out: "If you
weren't around there it wouldn't
have happened. You're just as much
to blame as anyone else."
