Washington. "French Lorraine has been complete

The French war office of Bordeaux cabled this in
formation this afternoon to the French embassy,
Paris. The official bulletin issued from the war of
fice at Bordeaux at three o'clock this afternoon shows
that the German retreat has been checked and that they
are now putting up a strong rear guard resistance.
Petrogard. The Russian forces now have the en
tire left wing of the Austrian army, including certain
German reinforcements, penned in an angle formed by
the junction of the Vistula and San rivers.
London. The war bureau this afternoon confirmed
the report that the army of Crown Prince Frederick Wil
helm has now been driven farther back and is now occu
pying a line through Varennes-on-Argonne onjthe Aire
river, 16 miles W. N. W. of Verdun.
Ostend. German division which has been holding
Alost has evacuated city in order to proceed to aid of
