public fund were acknowledged all
over the earth and the fund was col
lected and used for the public bene
fit, there would be no need of gov
ernments levying taxes upon the
wealth that the people create by their
individual exertions. If this fund was
taken for public purposes and ex
pended for the benefit of all the peo
ple, there would be no need of any
other fund and any attempt by gov
ernment to get revenue in other ways
would result in the overthrow of the
government which would attempt it.
If this public fund which now goes
into private coffers was taken and
used for public purposes the right of
all the people to be upon the earth
would be acknowledged and no man
would have to hunt a master to hire
him or to bey for alms.
If this fund went to the right place
there would be no poverty anywhere
on the earth and panics and hard
times would vanish from civilization.
As long as wealth and power shall
claim the ownership of the earth up
on which men must live poverty and
want will exist and men will war for
the extension of territory, for the
ownership of the earth necessarily
involves the ownership of men who
must live upon it
The remedy for poverty and want,
for panics and hard times, and the
remedy which will abolish war from
the face of the earth is the adoption
by the nations of the single tax pro
posed by Henry George in Progress
Until the people of the earth learn
the gospel of righteous democracy
taught therein they will suffer from
all the ills of bad government and ill
adjusted economic conditions. And
