men is their difference as MEN and
what they believe in and stand for.
Robins is a- bigger and better man
as a MAN than as" a Progressive. His
life has been bigger and broader than
the Progressive platform.
What is the sense in being regular?
What does it get YOU? Why not -be
regular for yourself and family in
stead of for a darned pld party"?
LAW FOR HOME-WRECKERS
Editor Day Book: Having read
The Day Book, I know you are a man
of very good opinions. I therefore
ask you to give us your opinion as
to laws covering these questions: Is
it a criminal act to rob a man of his
wife and wreck his home? I have had
a lengthy talk with a man who has
had the misfortune of having his
home broken up by a friend who,
when sick and stranded, was taken
into the home he later wrecked. In
speaking of the laws covering this
point, I understand that disorderly
conduct is all that can be placed
against such persons. Supposing-now
that the man whose home was
wrecked took the law into his own
hands? Could anyone blame him?
I believe that a man who robs an
other of his home should be punished
just as severely as when he robs of
money. And I would like to see such
laws in effect at once, as it is a
terrible ordeal to go through and the
man in most cases is never himself
again. I could mention other cases
of this kmd.Jjut I do not wish to

enlighten the public of Chicago to the
working conditions that are imposed
upon the employes of Walden W.
Shaw Co. by the Czar of Taxidom,

On entering the employ of this
would-be monopolizer of the taxicab
business of Chicago, you are furnish
.ed with a very slick-looking uniform,
for which you are allowed to pay
$15.50. Then you are ushered before
His Excellency the Czar for inspec
tion. If you meet with His Excellency's
approval you are then directed to the
drivers room and notified that you
will be called when needed.
After you have waited 4 or 5 hours
you are probably allowed to take a
car to one of the Taxicab Trust's pri
vate stands for an average of 5 or 6
hours' work, for which you receive
the munificent sum of 17 cents per
This will happen about six? months.
Then you receive a steady car and
are allowed to work 12 hours per day
at an enormous salary of $15 for 84
hours per vjeek. But in reality you
put in about 110 hours, as you are
not credited with working time until
your car actually leaves the garage.
And, as a rule, you have to loaf
around for two or three hours every
day waiting for your car, so that you
have about 58 hours per week to
spend with your family.
I said $15 per week, but you never
receive all of it, as there is always a
little slip in your pay envelope for
charges for breakage or damage to
your car. On payday you must ap
pear before the autocrat and receive
an O. K. slip, which then entitles you
to receive the often very near empty
