LOOK WHO'S COMING! IT'S NO.NE OTHER
THAN GWENDOLWN, THE GIRL CADDIE
It used to be "See here, you
blankety - blankety, wooden - headed
chump, where have you been with
those golf balls, and why in Halifax
don't you bring me sticks?"
But that was before golf was re
formed, before it knew the refining
influence of the "girl caddie." -
Soon, but not yet, the conversa
tion of the links may-be like this:
"My deah, Miss Gwendoline, pawdon
me for this intrusion, but may I be
so presuming as to awsk you to lug
that bag of sticks over to the 'steenth
hole, and is it awsking too much to
put a dozen balls in the bag, and if
you don't mind I'll awsk you to lug
my sweater along. Oh, thanks, aw
fully. Channed to have had a mo
ment's chat with you."
The girl caddie was an established
institution on French golf links be
fore Frenchmen threw aside golf
balls to play with cannon balls, and
some American golfers who have
played abroad rather like the idea of
having "sweet young things" tote
their pslf sticks about for them, and
they feel sure that Miss Caddie would
have a refining effect on the "tired
business man" who isn't permitted
to do his cussing at home.
"But your fiance has such a smalT
salary, how are you going to live?"
"Oh, we're going ' to economize.
We're going to do without such a lot
of things that Jack needs."
