U. S, SOCIETY WOMAN TXMRS "COOK TOET AID
OF LONDON'S POOR
Mrs. Ben Lathrop
- San Francisco, Cal. Mrs. Ben
Lathrop, former San Francisco so
ciety matron and wife of a well
known stock broker, is to don a
cook's apron and prepare gallons of
soup to be sold to starving women in
the Duchess of Marlborough's soup
kitchen in London.
Mrs. Lathrop formerly was Miss
Isabelle Harris, and is well known as
a talented singer.
The novel mode of relief in which
Mrs. Lathrop is to participate will be
inaugurated for the benefit of hun
gry and poverty stricken women.
The charges will be trivial a quart
of soup with a quarter of a pound of
bread for a penny.
The first kitchen will be opened in
the Islington section. It is here that
Mrs. Lathrop will be cook, and it is
expected that a heavy demand upon
the duchess' kitchen will keep the
charity workers busy day and night

A large sponge placed in the bot
tom of the umbrella jar absorbs the
water and protects the jar.
