Esther Falkenstein, noted settle
ment worker, will immediately start a
campaign among the various wom
en's organization against the' scheme
of Mandel Brothers to put over in the
city council an ordinance permitting
the big department stores to use subr
basements.
It was through Mrs. Falkenstein's
efforts that the Illinois Federation, of
Women's dubs has already con
demned sub-basements in depart
ment stores and the powerful support
of these federated clubs wiM be
