WIFE BRINGS HUBBY TO HIS
KNEES IN MORALS COURT
Andrew Segel of 2246 Wabash av.
made a splash in his matrimonial pud
dle" Saturday night. Andy went out
for a good time. Duringthe evening
he was arrested in the company of
six women with morals court records.
. He called up a friend, was bailed
out and got home Sunday morning,
felling his wife he had bedn arrested
in a dance hall fight. But
q Mrs. Segel suspected him and went
early to the morals court and
sat in the back row, where he could
not see her.
Segel's case was called and the six
women with him were fined. Then
City Prosecutor P. C. Souhrada
turned to him.
"Are you married?" he asked.
"No," Segel answered.
"Three and no costs," said Judge
Goodnow, and Andy started for the
door. t
Just then Mrs. Segel appeared in
thecourt.
Smack! His wife hit him in the
face. Then she fired a volley into
his ribs and kicked him on the shins.
Segel was hailed before Judge
Goodnow again.
"You lied to me," said the judge.
"Two hundred and costs. That will
be six months in the Bridewell."
Then Mrs. Segel began crying.
"Don't fine him, judge. Don't send
him away. He's all I have and he
has always treated me well," she
sobbed. "Besides I would have -to go
to work." She held his hand and
cried. Then she turned on him
fiercely.
"Get down on your knees and beg
forgiveness," she cried. "Get down
before the whole court and promise
never to do it again."
And Segel knelt before her with
his head bent.
"I promise," he said quietly and
the turbulent morals courtwas still.
"Just a minute before you arise,"
said Prosecutor Souhrada. "Promise
this: No more women. You will 1
bring home your pay envelope un
opened, stay at home with your wife
every night, and do what she says."
"I promise," said Segel again.
"Then go and be good to her. If
she even comes in here again with
a tale about you 111 trim you good,"
said Judge Goodnow. "Now go."
Segel arose and the pair left the
courtroom holding each other tightly.
