Rollie Zeider joined the Whales in
training camp at Shreveport yester
day and gave out the flat statement
that he has recovered from the stiff
back which bothered him last season.
The exfSoX star said he sincerely be
lieved he would have a good season
and was nat giving out the usual pre
season bunk.
If Rollie has not overestimated his
strength Joe Tinker will cease his
stunts at third base, for Zeider is a
crack man at the difficult corner, a
good fielder, strong batter and ex
pert baserunner.
Silk Kavanaugh, the Chicago boy,

tan, the rookie picked up on the coast,
and kicked in one run yesterday.
Schalk is in the game only about a
third of the time, and Weaver, of
course, is in a hospital. To add to
these handicaps, the pitching is far
below major league standard, Scott
being the only man now turning in
valuable work.
Despite these drawbacks and fre
quent defeats administered by Coast
League teams, prospects for the Sox
starting the season with a badg are
excellent. Individually the men are
In good physica lcondition, with the
exception of Weaver, and Buck will
be back for the last two weeks of the
spring trip.
Two weks will be long enough to
whip the crew to a semblance of a
team, and, if the pitchers, can carry
the burden at the start, a running
jump is possible. There is bound to
be increased batting streugth, as
Belch and Brief will brace up that de
partment.
Wolfgang, the midget pitcher, ras -joined'the
