He was too late, however. An ex
planation was inevitable.
'You never told me," spoke Eunice,
staring strangely at her husband.
"Yes, and-jwhy not?" equally be
wildered, challenged Doyce.
"Bescause I loved you, dear," ex
plained Vance "because I thought
only of you, not of your money."
Eunice's eyes were dazzling. She
trembled with joy at this manifest
proof of her husband's devotion.
"You see, there's my fee began
Doyce.
"Oh, yes, we will ask for the
money," insisted Eunice.
"Why should we?" inquired Vance.
"Are we not the happiest mortals in
the world as it is?"
"Yes, dear," answered Eunice, "but
when I think how hard you have
worked for me when that money
would spare you, I long to make it
easier for you."
"H'm! I declare! You are a re
markable young man!" declared
Doyce.
"I wish you had not found us," said
Vance.
"I do not!" cried Eunice brightly.
"Why the money will be a blessing to
us, m the care of the dearest most
unselfish adorable husband a wom
an ever had !"
And she punctuated the extrava
gant words with rare, fervid kisses.

TODAY'S TESTED RECIPE

A Vegetable Dish Wash, chop fine
and boil several kinds of vegetables.
Put in some spinach, a carrot, a po
tato and a beet. Boil again in a
saucepan with some stock. Add y2
cupful of milk or cream. Stir well to
gether and take off the stove to cool.
When cool add the yolks of 2 eggs,
some grated cheese and the whites of
the eggs beaten up. Put the vege
tables into a mold which has been
well buttered and line with bread
crumbs. Cook in moderate oven.
