- GIRL WORKERS ON STRIKE
The 25 women employed by the
Chicago Hat Works, 411 Mautlna
Park, have been on strike since Mon
day morning. The plant is com
pletely tied up.
They struck because their wages
were cut. The manager one day an
nounced he would have to retrench,
say the girls. He retrenched by
whacking the piece-work salary lists
so severely that the loss to the work
ers averaged from 50 cents to $1.00
The women have offered four com
promise plans, all of which were re
jected. The women, who are .mem
bers of Local 14,400, Ladies Straw
and Pelt Hat Operators, were willing
to accept a reasonable reduction in
some lines of the work.
