WOE BE TO WE MEN WE ARE
JUMPED ON AGAIN
San Francisco, July 21. Asserting
that a smoker thought more of his
cigar or his pipe than of his wife and
advising all young women who are
engaged to men with tobacco habit
to break with them, Dr. Charles G.
Pease, New York, president of Non
Smokers' Protectice league of Amer
ica, opened first annual convention of
that organization here with three
persons in his audience. One was
real delegate, second was a press
agent looking for a job and the third
a reporter. ;
"No woman can afford to occupy .
the same room with a man who ,
smokes," said Dr. Pease today. "A
wife for the good of future genera
tions should insist on her husband
living by himself in another part of '
the house. I am in favor of every
wife forcing her husband to smoke on !
the back doorstep. He should not be
allowed to smoke in the house. If we ;
don't stop this smoking business our
jails are going to be overcrowded."
Mrs. Wilson, the delegate, urged
men to boycott women who smoke or j
drink cocktails. She declared that
cigarettes and cocktails were getting
a hold on college girls and that some
thing must be done to counteract
this.
